The unique profile of the EMCC is marked by both its specific <strong>in</strong>ternational and<br />

<strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary design and its aim to promote academic excellence. The obligation<br />

of each student to study at no less than two universities teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> different<br />

languages forms the basis of this <strong>in</strong>ternational programme. Each of the universities at<br />

which a part of the credits necessary for a successful completion of the programme<br />

has been validated will award a Masters degree (double or multiple).<br />

Core modules comprise three ma<strong>in</strong> subjects: Ancient History, Classical Philology and<br />

Archaeology plus a total of 5 modules.<br />

Two advanced modules are designed to improve methodological and language skills.<br />

Extension modules aim at professionalis<strong>in</strong>g the students further by expand<strong>in</strong>g<br />

geographic and historical knowledge <strong>in</strong> the pert<strong>in</strong>ent field, and by deepen<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

understand<strong>in</strong>g of methodological problems.<br />

The week-long <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary compact course (blocksem<strong>in</strong>ar) will be organised by<br />

the local coord<strong>in</strong>ators and take place once a year at chang<strong>in</strong>g locations.<br />

The programme <strong>in</strong>cludes placements which offer the opportunity to ga<strong>in</strong> hands-on<br />

or practice-oriented experience.<br />

BA or equivalent degree <strong>in</strong> a relevant subject. Relevant subjects are <strong>in</strong> particular<br />

Ancient History, Archaeology, and Classical Philology.<br />

Verifiable knowledge of the language spoken at the university where the programme<br />

is taken up is a requisite, as well as functional knowledge of two further modern<br />

languages (at least one which is the official language of one of the partner<br />

universities).<br />

Knowledge of Ancient Greek or Lat<strong>in</strong>.<br />
