A two year study programme, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the completion of an Master’s thesis, allows<br />

students to ga<strong>in</strong> a comprehensive knowledge and master their practical skills with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

field of their specialization, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g translation, teach<strong>in</strong>g, mass communication and<br />

journalism, advertis<strong>in</strong>g and promotion. Master’s sem<strong>in</strong>ars are offered <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

areas: l<strong>in</strong>guistics, applied l<strong>in</strong>guistics, l<strong>in</strong>guistic pragmatics, British literature and culture,<br />

and American literature and culture.<br />

Apart from courses of general English at the advanced level, ESP and English for academic<br />

purposes, students choose their major fields of specialization <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g general specialization,<br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g and translation, and one of the follow<strong>in</strong>g specialization modules:<br />

Language <strong>in</strong> communication, persuasion, argumentation focus<strong>in</strong>g on describ<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

analyz<strong>in</strong>g the complex l<strong>in</strong>guistic strategies of effective <strong>in</strong>terpersonal and <strong>in</strong>stitutional<br />

communication and persuasion.<br />

Media and political discourse <strong>in</strong> theory and practice explor<strong>in</strong>g, exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, and assess<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the role of language as a tool of persuasion and manipulation <strong>in</strong> various doma<strong>in</strong>s<br />

of public discourse. Corpus and computational l<strong>in</strong>guistics <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g theoretical foundations<br />

of computational and corpus l<strong>in</strong>guistics as well as their applications <strong>in</strong> specific<br />

areas. Theatre, film and media studies develop<strong>in</strong>g a variety of practical and analytical<br />

skills <strong>in</strong> the field of mass media, film and theatre, and guarantee<strong>in</strong>g extensive contact<br />

with the masterpieces of contemporary visual culture.<br />

Popular culture studies <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g heterogeneous perspectives on <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

phenomena of popular culture, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g multiple discourses and genres (film, the<br />

media, music, literature).<br />

The studies are free of charge for Polish and the EU/EFTA citizens.<br />

The charge of 2000 EUR/year applies for students from outside the EU/EFTA, exclusive<br />

of an additional 200 EUR charge that covers registration fee. For students of Polish<br />

orig<strong>in</strong> the tuition is reduced by 30%.<br />

Candidates hold<strong>in</strong>g higher education (Bachelor) diplomas or Master degrees <strong>in</strong> English<br />

studies or related areas may apply. A diploma and a transcript of records show<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

courses/grades and a certificate of proficiency <strong>in</strong> English for foreigners (unless the first<br />
