University of Wrocław has a rich history of more than three centuries. Founded by<br />

Leopold I Habsburg the University evolved from a modest school run by Jesuits <strong>in</strong>to<br />

one of the biggest academic <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> <strong>Poland</strong>. After World War II a group of Polish<br />

professors, formerly from Lvov, started teach<strong>in</strong>g and research activities at the University<br />

of Wrocław. Nowadays, the first and foremost focus of the University of Wrocław is<br />

scientific research. Our scholars have numerous l<strong>in</strong>ks with their fellow researchers from<br />

other higher education <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> <strong>Poland</strong> and throughout the world.<br />

The cultural and geographical location of our University of the Polish, German and<br />

Czech border justifies our aspiration as an open, tolerant and world – oriented <strong>in</strong>stitution.<br />

The overall aim of the University Internationalization Strategies are to prepare the<br />

students for a multicultural community and <strong>in</strong>formation society. S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>Poland</strong>’s<br />

European Union accession our University has been a part of uniform European area of<br />

Higher Education. This means political, economic and social consolidation and cooperation.<br />

It also greatly facilitates free students movement between European countries.<br />

Today University of Wrocław is the largest university <strong>in</strong> the region of Lower Silezia<br />

and teaches over 35,000 students (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g about 800 <strong>in</strong>ternational students) and<br />

around 1400 doctoral students at 10 Faculties. 9000 students graduate from the<br />

University every year.<br />
