Providing Essential Fatty Acids<br />

Most lipid molecules can be synthesized in the body from other organic molecules, so they<br />

don’t specifically need to be provided in the diet. However, there are two that are considered<br />

essential <strong>and</strong> must be included in the diet: linoleic acid <strong>and</strong> alpha-linolenic acid. We’ll discuss<br />

these two fatty acids in detail later in the unit.<br />
