You may have also heard that fish can contain dangerous levels of mercury. This is true<br />

of some large species of fish that are higher up the food chain, because they accumulate<br />

mercury from their smaller prey <strong>and</strong> then we get a big dose when we eat them. Fish<br />

that have dangerous levels of mercury include king mackerel, marlin, orange roughy,<br />

shark, swordfish, tilefish, <strong>and</strong> bigeye tuna. Pregnant women <strong>and</strong> growing children in<br />

particular should take care to avoid these types of fish, because mercury can interfere with<br />

brain development. However, the same groups also st<strong>and</strong> to benefit from healthful omega-3<br />

fatty acids, like DHA <strong>and</strong> EPA, which are helpful for brain development. Thus, it’s good for
