risk factors like sedentary lifestyle, smoking, <strong>and</strong> diabetes. It’s not clear that low HDL is<br />

actually a cause of cardiovascular disease; we only know that it’s correlated. Because of these<br />

discoveries, raising HDL cholesterol is no longer considered a goal of prevention of heart<br />

disease. Rather, lowering LDL cholesterol is the primary target. 4,5<br />
