Evolución del Tráfico según tipo de red El crecimiento global del tráfico en las carreteras que conforman la Red Funcional de la Comunidad Autónoma del País Vasco ha sido del 4,05% medio anual en el período 1997 – 2003. Por tipo de red el crecimiento más importante ha sido el registrado por la Red de Interés Preferente, que ha crecido en el período a un ritmo del 4,73% anual. En el Territorio Histórico de Álava el tráfico creció en el mismo período al 4,83% anual, siendo en este caso la Red con mayor crecimiento la Básica, con una tasa del 5,38%, seguida de la Red Comarcal, con un crecimiento del 5,09%. La Red de Interés Preferente creció en el período al 3,98% anual. Por su parte, la Red vizcaína fue la que experimentó el menor crecimiento global de los tres Territorios Históricos. Sin embargo, Bizkaia obtuvo el mayor crecimiento en la Red de Interés Preferente, alcanzando el 5,11% anual.
