university. The emphasis is on university-wide standardised strategies,
which must be worked out in accordance with the following guidelines:
– simple to use for customers and staff thanks to a standardised, clearly
defined organisational and technological framework
– integrated into the infrastructure for security, identity management,
campus file system, PC management etc.
– competent thanks to consistent and continual training of users, DP
staff and administrators
– customer oriented with reliable operation, short service delivery
times, user friendly guidance and a range of service offers reflecting
the current state of technological progress.
5.2. Electronic publishing
The subproject EP (Electronic Publishing) aims at providing the academic
staff of Augsburg University with high-quality central services that
facilitate the publication of their research. The subproject thus takes up
recommendations concerning electronic publishing issued by the Wissenschaftsrat
and the DFG.
The subproject as it has been proposed intends to deal successively with
five areas of work. At the same time, the university library will give support
from its own part of the project. The library will also take care of the
various links and overlappings between the project parts and of their coordination
with the many initiatives of cooperation partners at the university.
– EP1: full-text publishing
– EP2: retrodigitisation
– EP3: image archive for photos and graphics
– EP4: automation of data services
– EP5: print on demand and support of publishing institutions at the
university.
These are fields of work in which solutions could be developed at
Augsburg University which after their completion should be transferable to
the level of individual federal states or even the whole federal republic (EP
3, EP 4, EP 5); or fields of work which up to now have only been partially
