1. Abstract

In order to realize an integrated information management the Universität
Karlsruhe has made a comprehensive paradigm shift which affects the organization
as well as the technical infrastructure.
For this reason in the first step the necessary organization structures and
decision boards have been established being the precondition for the implementation
of an integrated service system. On this fundament now a
technical and organizational infrastructure is created which is based on an
integrated service oriented architecture and permits to integrate and offer
services of systems and institutions in the overall context of the university.
2. Brief description of the university
The Universität Karlsruhe is the oldest technical university in Germany.
Founded in 1825 more than 18,000 students are enrolled today, studying at
11 faculties. The main focuses of the university are the technical-natural
scientific disciplines and engineering. The rate of foreign students presently
comes to about 20 percent, foreign top scientist rank the Universität
Karlsruhe among the five most attractive German universities. In order to
increase the research competence the Universität Karlsruhe cooperates to a
large extent with the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (Research Center
Karlsruhe) by establishing jointly the “Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
(KIT)”.
