making the transition into a regular routine service after the end of the project-support-funding.
This means that the planning of the future use of media
has to put its main emphasis on an improved coordination of the single
intentions and their steady implementation.
With this, it suggested itself to the kiz as the organisation to already embody
the shift of orientation of the classical university organisational structures
as a reaction to the changed constraints, to take over the initiative in
producing the „Media-Development-Plan“ as part of the „Structure- and
Development-Plan“ of Ulm University and to get going a consistent and
future-compliant concept together with representants of research and teaching
within the faculties and the university administration, which displays
the startegy of development concerning the use of media in university
teaching. Special importance is, in this context, devoted to respecting the
chenges on the education market. In the first phase of media-orientation,
Ulm University did first and foremost concentrate on an „On-Campus-
Strategy“. It comprised two essential lines of development, the one being
completion and supplementation of face-to-face-teaching by means of
multi-media-technologies aiming to improve the quality of teaching and the
efficiency of teaching- and learning-processes; the other being the provision
of a media-based service-infrastructure, permitting a functional integration
of the administrative processes in all branches of the university.
Additionally, this support is meant to be offered in the future also to the
scientific further education branch of the university, meaning an offcampus-strategy.
The kiz in this context has mainly the duty to support that
process by means of a respective full-scale range of services, requiring the
expertise of all departments forming the kiz´s operative basis to contribute
equally.
The continuous improvement of network-based global communication,
connected with a decline in costs for bandwidth, furthermore allows internationally
intended activities, leading to a situation of tightening competition
on the global education market. Ulm University will carefully observe
these developments and, for the moment, focus its international activities
on intense cooperations with selected universities abroad. For instance,
Ulm University supports „German University Cairo (GUC)“ in establishing
and building up its faculties in academical teaching and research, as well as
