– Phase 2 (month 25 to 48) – further integration of application services:
more application services for teaching, study, research and
administration are worked on here and integrated into the KIM. Core
services are only completed as far as necessary, the service portal is
extended according to the meanwhile large number of available
application services.
– Phase 3 (month 49 to 72) – development and integration of innovative
application services: the integration on all layers does not only
permit an efficient and seamless provision of known application services
integrated in the phases I and II, but allows also the development
of new services especially with regard to evaluation and controlling,
project management, community grids or for example a lifecycle
engineering solution center.
In 2003 and 2004 the presented organizational structures were installed.
Phase 1 of the project for the implementation of the iSOA has been started
on 1st January 2005 and comprises in the first project phase 300 person
months of which the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry of Science, Research
and the Arts promotes by a target agreement 120 person months.
7.1. Web service technology for process optimization
Based on the fact that the scope of the project is not to develop new applications,
the technical platform of KIM is designed to integrate existing
or still to be implemented systems. So the technical core of KIM is a pure
integration platform trying as far as possible to integrate existing software
in a way that the media disruptions within the processes, if not eliminated,
at least can be minimized. Starting from the compilation and modeling of
the business processes, application services are derived being mapped in so
called orchestrations of core services and the appropriate user interactions.
After this the orchestrations are implemented on a process management
system. At the same time the existing systems are analyzed and the core
services necessary for the orchestration are isolated. These are embedded
into the orchestration by a web service on base of the SOAP protocol. A
substantial component of the existing (legacy) systems are the applications
of the HIS GmbH (HIS limited company). Within the scope of the project a
generic read interface was designed which could be implemented thanks to
HIS within the shortest time on the basis of already existing HIS interfaces.
