In 2007, this semi automatic, mono directional solution will be replaced by
a professional Novell identity-management system.
The selection of Novell Identity Manager followed a prototypical acquisition
process after an extensive evaluation (market research, communication
with pilot users, supplier interviews, weighed criteria matrix).
A working group with members from all departments involved harmonized
rules and processes. Simultaneously, uniform and up-to-date IT services
regulations were formulated.
The university-wide identity management will be the technical basis for
the integration of existing and new IT services. The identity management
will synchronize user-administration data of all relevant software systems.
This will lead to a better data quality and validity, and improve data security
and data protection. The personnel and student-data processing systems
currently in use at the University of Oldenburg (SAP/R3, HIS-SOS) will
remain the primary sources for the data. A web interface will be provided
for the administration, for the Info-Help-Desk, and for the self administration
by the users.
Productive operation will begin in the summer 2007.
