The module “information literacy” was shaped and taught within the inter-faculty
courses (“Professionalisierungsbereich”) of the Bachelor study
programs based on new methodological and didactic standards. Additional
courses on IT services‟ subjects enhanced the IBIT course program.
Already during the project the course and training concept was coordinated
and administrated centrally, which made IBIT‟s integrated presentation
of the course program possible. 4 Central coordination and steering will
be part of IBIT‟s regular services.
After the expiry of the German Research Foundation‟s funding, main
activities and most courses are in the area of information literacy. Ongoing
work covers the creation of a sustainable portfolio that meets “market demand”,
and the further implementation of accredited modules for the Bachelor
and Master study programs.
5.2.4 Integrated Info-Help-Desk
The integrated Info-Help-Desk will be instrumental in creating a joint,
user oriented, tiered service to support and guide users in the areas of information
and literature research, media production, and information technology.
Users will receive service at “one-stop-shops” at both university
campuses and, due to the new concept, at a higher level of quality.
In the course of the project it became apparent that it is not sufficient to
look at information and support services as isolated items, but the surrounding
setting, e.g. public workplaces, has to be considered as well.
The conceptual model of the Information Commons (IC) 5 is factored in,
as it offers a holistic approach to learning and working spaces, and puts
special emphasis on the new teaching and learning circumstances of stu-
