5.2. Application projects
In order to actually implement the layer-model, various particular aspects
of the service-infrastructure were treated as separable projects, among
them eminently:
The „SoFa“-project (studying without fixed connection) featuring as a
substantial element the single-sign-on-function of the university-serviceportal,
allowing global access using one single, universally valid assignment.
Via the emerging university service-portal, especially new multimedia
services roundabout studying and teaching have been made available
adapting exemplarily selected multi-media teaching- and learningarrangements
in medical and computer sciences to the possibilities of mobile
use.
„Central identity-management“ based on a LDAP-user-directory is intended
to serve in the future not only as a tool for the administration of
identification at the portal, but also as a means of consolidation of data and
of achieving consistency among data in various branches within the university.
All new services at Ulm University can use this directory after minor
adaption for authentification purposes and consequently relinquish directory-services
of their own. The common mail- and network-account of the
kiz opens the personalized access to the university-service-portal.
The connection of the e-directory and of the electronical semesterapparatus
to the HIS-module „LSF“ (teaching, studying and research) created
a digital calendar of events.
An existing electronical system for surveillance of tutorials and exercising-groups
(TÜV) was integrated as a comfortable online-assignationsystem
that the students can use to enrol themselves for lectures and accompanying
courses. In TÜV, waiting-lists are administered as well as
different users or groups of users. Authentification and authorisation occur
via the central identity-management mentioned above.
The already existing „e-blackboard“ was integrated as an electronical
announcement-system usable as a university-wide blackboard via the university
blackboard. Authentification and authorisation also occur via the
central identity-management.
