4. Strategic goals and guidelines, envisaged models
The ICT strategy has the goal to offer a consumer friendly, seamlessly
integrated ICT infrastructure for research, teaching, administration, and
health care.
4.1. Research
With Linux-Cluster-Systems, used in the data processing centers and
individual departments, access to grid-computing has been established.
With the help of grid computing software such as platform LSF, dynamic
grids can be planned, arranged, utilized and managed from the sum of
computer resources.
Göttingen is home to several Germany wide grid projects such as MediGrid,
a medical and sociological project, as well as TextGrid, a project in
the humanities.
4.2. Teaching
Using E-learning tools to support teaching at the University of
Göttingen
The University of Göttingen offers effective support for sustainable
multimedia use in the classroom. The SUB offers the technology and is
responsible for the E-learning contents which are available through the
catalogues and information guides. The library has integrated E-learning
materials and other multi-media objects into the daily workflow which
consists of subject cataloguing, collection and supply. By developing of Elearning
services and by integrating them with other service elements, the
range of products increases. Central components for E-learning are standardized
infrastructures such as software systems which manage learning
materials and access for learners (learning platform) as well as multimedia
auditoriums and seminar rooms. The learning platform is a modern, free of
charge learning infrastructure and is used as a central service for the universities.
Learning resource centers are able to increase professors‟ and
