4. Strategic goals and guidelines, envisaged models<br />

The ICT strategy has the goal to offer a consumer friendly, seamlessly<br />

integrated ICT infrastructure for research, teaching, administration, and<br />

health care.<br />

4.1. Research<br />

With Linux-Cluster-Systems, used in the data processing centers and<br />

individual departments, access to grid-computing has been established.<br />

With the help of grid computing software such as platform LSF, dynamic<br />

grids can be planned, arranged, utilized and managed from the sum of<br />

computer resources.<br />

Göttingen is home to several Germany wide grid projects such as MediGrid,<br />

a medical and sociological project, as well as TextGrid, a project in<br />

the humanities.<br />

4.2. Teaching<br />

Using E-learning tools to support teaching at the University of<br />

Göttingen<br />

The University of Göttingen offers effective support for sustainable<br />

mult<strong>im</strong>edia use in the classroom. The SUB offers the technology and is<br />

responsible for the E-learning contents which are available through the<br />

catalogues and information guides. The library has integrated E-learning<br />

materials and other multi-media objects into the daily workflow which<br />

consists of subject cataloguing, collection and supply. By developing of Elearning<br />

services and by integrating them with other service elements, the<br />

range of products increases. Central components for E-learning are standardized<br />

infrastructures such as software systems which manage learning<br />

materials and access for learners (learning platform) as well as mult<strong>im</strong>edia<br />

auditoriums and seminar rooms. The learning platform is a modern, free of<br />

charge learning infrastructure and is used as a central service for the universities.<br />

Learning resource centers are able to increase professors‟ and<br />

students‟ media competencies. The goal is to successfully offer and use E-
