8. Opportunities and risks, advantages and disadvantages of
the project
The described projects realize the ICT-strategy in Göttingen. Service
providers conduct the sub-projects alongside their original functions. The
coordination is carried out in the structures depicted in section 6. The results
achieved so far have led to substantial progress, especially through
synergy effects, for GÖ*‟s goals in different areas. However, due to a lack
of new staff GÖ*-wide projects remain risky, especially regarding sustainability.
9. Conclusion
The University of Göttingen holds structures for information supply that
involve different service providers who fulfill target group - specific functions.
GÖ* enables flexible means of cooperation between departments in
order to enhance productivity through cooperation while maintaining a
mostly steady budget. One of the main goals is to improve information
supply and services for users in the university, the school of medicine and
the Max-Planck-Institutes.
Service providers focus on their key competences for this type of cooperation.
Comprehensive tasks are carried out in cooperating teams/project
teams. At the same time, a standardized and provider-independent support
structure is developed for the users.

The ICT concept of the University of Göttingen has been developed in
the context of the request for proposal by the DFG entitled “Performance
centres for research information” (first call). This project has been funded
with 50,000 € by the DFG.
