includes the necessary hardware as well as software. At the same time, they
offer classes for further qualifications.
E-Publishing
E-publishing is realized with the help of an integrated publication system
(publication pyramid) and used by the entire university. This system is
a pool of centralized, connected electronic documents. They differ in terms
of edition, access and quality testing. University publishing house, run by
the University library, plays an important role in the publishing system. The
type of publication takes place demand-oriented and is based on the mediaindependent
approach. Both, media-independent and electronic publishing
are used as archives (high quality print, print on demand).
The “eDiss” is another element of the publishing system, which gives
each member of the university the opportunity to publish their dissertation
or postdoctoral writing in electronic form in the context of “open access”.
4.3. Administration
The data processing staff unit is the service provider for the head office
of the university (this does not include the school of medicine) and for students.
With the help of the main administration and the administrative departments,
the executive committee governs the university. Administrative
tasks have become decentralized and individual departments are now more
responsible and engaged in administration. For example, they participate in
centralized, automatic procedures such as ordering or accounting with the
help of SAP functions. The service provider supports the individual administrative
departments by offering the appropriate infrastructure, server hosting,
and application-service-providing. These projects are done with the
objective to increase strategic planning for administrative data processing
as well as the development and supervision of appropriate application systems.
