Using of a comprehensive and overall description approach for the entire
architecture an integrated information ´map (i²Map) makes the nominal
and current state of all essential aspects and characteristics of the integrated
systems and services available.
6. Decision and responsibility structures, management tools
and user communication
In order to the coordination of information providing and processing and
for the interdisciplinary and administrative consolidation of the researchrelated
organizational and technical aspects efficient coordination structures
have been established at the university. Among these are:
– the position of a “chief information officer (CIO)” created in the
president‟s office by assigning his duties and resonsibilities to the
prorector for structure in order to promote at the management level
the integration and coordination of information providing and
processing in all fields of the Universität Karlsruhe;
– the Committee on Information Providing and Processing (AIV) established
by the senate and chaired by the CIO giving recommendations
to the president‟s office and the senate in all questions of information
providing and processing at the Universität Karlsruhe,
especially in matters of general and fundamental importance;
– The four subcommittees established by the AIV:
o For the library system / the information providing (AfB)
o For data processing / the information processing (AfD)
o For the application of new media in research, teaching, study,
further education and administration (AfM)
o For information processing in administration (AfVD).
Guide line of these subcommittees is the so called user governance: The
subcommittees represent the interests of the users in the respective fields,
advise the operational officers and give appropriate recommendations for
the strategic development of the scope. The integration link with the AIV is
guaranteed by the fact that the respective chairmen of the subcommittees
are „ex officio‟ the AIV-members appointed by the senate.
