An ICT-Strategy for the
Research Location Göttingen

In 2002, the German Research Foundation (DFG) requested the development
of performance centers in some of Germany‟s universities. The
overall goal to promote research found great support within academia. The
University of Göttingen and its school of medicine submitted a proposal
and their concept was selected and ranked among the top four. Subsequently,
with the support of the DFG, the University developed a detailed plan
for an innovative concept in order to establish an integrated ICT infrastructure
and its management. This plan “GÖ* – Integrated Information Management
in the research location Göttingen“ was developed with the help of
the computer centre for the University of Goettingen (GWDG), the business
unit “information technology” in the school of medicine (BE G 3-7)
and the Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen
(SUB). In the following we discuss how the GÖ*-project has developed.
