The University of Duisburg-Essen combines quality in teaching and
quality of research all across the board, in order to establish itself as an
attractive location for studying and research.
Four research areas, recognised as key in future developments form the
cornerstones for the profile of the university:
– Urban Systems
– Nano-Sciences
– Genetic Medicine
– Empirical Education Research
Teaching and services are continually evaluated, in order to maintain
high quality levels. Much support is given to the continuous education of
teaching staff. Another important element in the profile of the university is
the continuous teaching and research development in the studies and qualifications
of teachers.
3. Background and Motivation for the Re-Orientation of Information
Management
After the fusion of the two universities, there were two libraries, two
computing centres, two centres for audio-visual media, two departments for
data processing in the libraries and in the central administrations. To reorganise
these existing resources in such a way to gain positive synergy effects
and to realise potentials for economising costs, it was necessary to
thoroughly reorganise the sector of Information, Communication and Media
around its nuclear competencies.
