service-packages which are easy for users to use. In order to achieve this,<br />

the working practices will be based on ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library), an<br />

internationally recognised model of “best practice” which has become established<br />

as the de facto standard for IT service management.<br />

5.2. Management Structures<br />

The model for the management of the information technology functional<br />

area shown in figure two was chosen on the basis of the ICM management<br />

structure described in section four. At the centre is the establishment of an<br />

IT forum for the bundling of user interests and the formulating of local IT<br />

concepts, on the basis of which the needs, services and responsibilities<br />

(service level management) are determined. The specific functions and<br />

tasks of the CIO for Information Technology are derived from the complex<br />

requirements this process generates.<br />
