difference between this statement and <strong>the</strong> Lambeth Articles<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sists in an omissi<strong>on</strong> and inserti<strong>on</strong>, s<strong>of</strong>tening <strong>the</strong> general<br />

effect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> language, while <strong>the</strong> substantial ground is <strong>the</strong><br />

same. Thus <strong>the</strong> first Lambeth Article menti<strong>on</strong>s reproba<br />

ti<strong>on</strong>, which <strong>the</strong> first article <strong>of</strong> this statement does not ; but<br />

reprobati<strong>on</strong> is implied in it. Again, <strong>the</strong> 7th Lambeth<br />

c<br />

Article says, Gratia salutaris n<strong>on</strong> tribuitur universis hominibus<br />

qua servari si<br />

possint, voluerint. Hooker inserts<br />

after is not given, desewedlyj which s<strong>of</strong>tens <strong>the</strong> effect,<br />

though <strong>the</strong> desert may be admitted by <strong>the</strong> most rigid predestinarian<br />

in <strong>the</strong> shape <strong>of</strong> original sin. There is a real<br />

difference between <strong>the</strong> two statements <strong>of</strong> doctrine, in <strong>the</strong><br />

omissi<strong>on</strong> in Hooker s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> doctrine <strong>of</strong> assurance, which is<br />

asserted in <strong>the</strong> Lambeth document.<br />
