This statement <strong>of</strong> doctrine is substantially <strong>Augustinian</strong>,<br />

and nothing more and ; Remigius approves <strong>of</strong> it as a whole,<br />

making an excepti<strong>on</strong> against <strong>the</strong> 5th propositi<strong>on</strong><br />

ing <strong>the</strong> meaning<br />

; respect<br />

<strong>of</strong> which he must have been under some<br />

mistake, for <strong>the</strong> language expresses no more than what is<br />

necessarily involved in <strong>the</strong> doctrine <strong>of</strong> original sin. With<br />

this excepti<strong>on</strong>, he maintains this doctrinal statement to be<br />

supported, uno sensu uno ore, by <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>rs and <strong>the</strong><br />

Church, and appeals to <strong>the</strong> undisputed authority <strong>of</strong> Augus<br />

tine in <strong>the</strong>ir favour Beatissimi patris Augustini ab<br />

omni semper ecclesia venerabiliter recepti et usque in<br />

finem seculi recipiendi, explaining <strong>the</strong> text Qui vult<br />

omnes homines salvos fieri, apparently c<strong>on</strong>tradicted in <strong>the</strong><br />

3rd propositi<strong>on</strong>, according to Augustine s interpretati<strong>on</strong> :<br />

(1.) Ut omnes homines omnia hominum genera accipia-<br />

mus :<br />

(2.) c n<strong>on</strong> quod omnes salventur, sed quod nemo nisi<br />

miserati<strong>on</strong>is ejus voluntate salvetur. On <strong>the</strong> 4th he : says<br />
