It should be po<strong>in</strong>ted out that at the start of the bath or ab-<br />

lution the <strong>in</strong>tention must be clear that it is for the purpose of<br />

purity and worship. Also, a person who is perform<strong>in</strong>g an ab-<br />

lution, partial or complete, should comb<strong>in</strong>e his performance<br />

with some utterances glorify<strong>in</strong>g God and pray<strong>in</strong>g Him for<br />

true guidance. The forms of such utterances are described <strong>in</strong><br />

detail <strong>in</strong> the elaborate sources of the religion. One, however,<br />

can say one's own best utterances if one does not know the<br />

exact word<strong>in</strong>g. That is sufficient as long as it is <strong>in</strong> the Praise<br />

of God and is said with s<strong>in</strong>cerity.<br />

The Call to Prayer (Adhan)<br />

Now the worshiper has performed his ablution as ex-<br />

pla<strong>in</strong>ed above and is ready for Prayer. When the time of<br />

Prayer comes, it is good practice, after the Traditions of<br />

Prophet Muhammad, to say the Prayer Call (Adhan). The<br />

caller stands fac<strong>in</strong>g the Qiblah (the direction of the Ka'bah at<br />

Mecca), rais<strong>in</strong>g both hands to his ears and says, <strong>in</strong> a loud<br />

voice, the foliow<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
