rate, lack of experience <strong>in</strong> civil life does not necessarily<br />

mean that vvoman is <strong>in</strong>ferior to man <strong>in</strong> her status. Every hu-<br />

man be<strong>in</strong>g iacks one th<strong>in</strong>g or another, yet no one questions<br />

their human status (2:282).<br />

10. Woman enjoys certa<strong>in</strong> privileges of which man is<br />

deprived. She is exempt from some religious duties. i. e.,<br />

Prayers and Fast<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong> her regular periods and at times of<br />

conf<strong>in</strong>ement, She is exempt from attend<strong>in</strong>g the obligatory<br />

congregation of Fridays. She is exempt from all f<strong>in</strong>ancial lia-<br />

bilities. As a mother, she enjoys more recognition and higher<br />

honor <strong>in</strong> the Sight of God (31:14-15; 46:15). The Prophet<br />

acknowledged this honor when he declared that Paradise is<br />

under the feet of the mothers. She i s entitled to three-fourths<br />

of the son's love and k<strong>in</strong>dness with one-fourth left for the fa-<br />

ther. As a vvife she is entitled to demand of her prospective<br />

husband a suitable dowry that will be her own. She is enti-<br />

tled to complete provision and total ma<strong>in</strong>tenance by the hus-<br />

band. She does not have to work or share with her husband<br />

5) It is <strong>in</strong>tcrest<strong>in</strong>g that a woman's witness <strong>in</strong> certa<strong>in</strong> matters is exciusivc<br />

and her expertisc conclusive. No man's witness is acccpled and no more<br />

ihan one woman is nceded. Furthermore, bear<strong>in</strong>g witness t o contraets and<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess transaetions is not a privilege but a duly (Quran, 2:282*283) that<br />

must be performed. I f the woman's share of this duty is lightened by one<br />

hal f. it can hardly be called a denial of her rights; i f anyth<strong>in</strong>g, it is a favor<br />

or an exemption.
