take it away or dis<strong>in</strong>herit her. Even if the deceased wishes to<br />

deprive her by mak<strong>in</strong>g a will to other relations or <strong>in</strong> favor of<br />

anv other cause, the Law will not allow him to do so. Any<br />

proprietor is permitted to make his will with<strong>in</strong> the limit of<br />

one-third of his property, so he may not affect the rights of<br />

his heirs, men and women. In the case of <strong>in</strong>heritance, the<br />

question of equality and sameness is fully applicable. In<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ciple, both man and woman are equally entitled to <strong>in</strong>her-<br />

it the property of the deceased relations bu t portions they get<br />

may vary. In sorne <strong>in</strong>stanees man receives two shares where-<br />

as woman gets one only. This is no sign of giv<strong>in</strong>g preference<br />

or supremacy to nian over woman,<br />

The reasons vvhy man gets more <strong>in</strong> these particular <strong>in</strong>-<br />

stanees may be classified as follows:<br />

First, man is the person solely responsible for the com~<br />

plete ma<strong>in</strong>tenance of his wife, his family and any other<br />

needy relations. It is his duty by Law to assume all f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />

responsibilities and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> his dependents adequately. It is<br />

also his duty to contribute f<strong>in</strong>ancially to all good causes <strong>in</strong><br />

his society. All f<strong>in</strong>ancial burdens are borne by him alone.<br />

Secondly, <strong>in</strong> contrast, woman has no f<strong>in</strong>ancial responsi-<br />

bilities whatsoever except very little of her personal expens-<br />

es, the highly luxurious th<strong>in</strong>gs that she likes to have. She is<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancially secure and provided for. If she is a wife, her hus-<br />

band is the provider; if she is mother, it is the son; if she is a
