The responsibleindustrial hygienist shall make this determination <strong>and</strong> maintaina written record for each work center where toxic chemicals orharmful physical agents may be found. A copy of this assessmentshall be provided to the installation or unit <strong>safety</strong> office sothat recommendations can be tracked or incorporated into thehazard abatement log. The record will include rationale for anyfinding <strong>and</strong> discrepancies.c. Workplace Monitoring Plan. If the exposure assessmentindicates workers are exposed to toxic chemicals <strong>and</strong>/or harmfulphysical agents, a work center monitoring plan shall be prepared<strong>and</strong> implemented. The industrial hygienist, responsible MTF, <strong>and</strong>ISM or unit <strong>safety</strong> officer shall develop the plan jointly.d. Periodic Evaluation. All Marine Corps work centers withrecognized potential health hazards shall be evaluated at leastannually. The baseline survey will identify those work centersnot requiring annual evaluations due to a negative exposureassessment. The baseline may indicate that the periodicevaluation should be performed more frequently as dictated bythe nature <strong>and</strong> degree of hazards present. Supervisors shallnotify the responsible industrial hygienist of any changes inprocedures, materials, or equipment that could affect personnelexposures to potential health hazards, <strong>and</strong> may require are-evaluation. During the periodic evaluation, a determinationshall be made on the status of the work center, <strong>and</strong> any changesrequired in the monitoring plan or frequency of periodicfollow-ups.2. Industrial Hygienist Responsibilitiesa. The industrial hygienist or industrial hygiene officer(IHO) assigned to naval medical activities that support MarineCorps comm<strong>and</strong>s shall provide comprehensive baseline <strong>and</strong> periodicworkplace evaluations, technical <strong>dir</strong>ection of workplacemonitoring programs, training <strong>and</strong> certification of workplacemonitors, <strong>and</strong> special assistance, as requested by the activitycomm<strong>and</strong>er (e.g., selection of PPE, review of engineeringdesigns, member of process hazard analysis team).11-5
