15004 MARCOR OSH PROGRAM MANUALd. Provide Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)approved training (training courses are approved by states) forall supervisors <strong>and</strong> workers involved in asbestos removaloperations. Provide a copy of the appropriate AHERA trainingcertificate to the installation asbestos program manager (APM)upon request.2. The ISM shall:a. Have oversight for all asbestos related activitiesaboard the installation.b. Provide advice <strong>and</strong> guidance to the APM.3. The APM will be appointed in writing by the comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong>shall:a. Attend AHERA training for supervisors, which includeaccreditation as an Asbestos Project Designer,Building Inspector, <strong>and</strong> Management Planner per 40 CFR 763.Recommended training courses include the following: 5-dayasbestos abatement contractor/supervisor training course, 3-dayasbestos inspector course, <strong>and</strong> 2-day asbestos management plannercourse.b. Have cognizance for all asbestos related activitiesaboard the installation or unit.c. Provide coordination in development of installation orunit asbestos control program.d. Provide asbestos awareness training for personnel who donot ordinarily work with asbestos in the performance of theirduties.e. Coordinate AHERA training for personnel <strong>dir</strong>ectlyinvolved with asbestos removal or containment projects.f. Verify <strong>and</strong> annotate NAVMC 11406, Checklist for AsbestosRemoval Operations, figure 15-1, with the dates training wasreceived by all personnel performing building-related asbestoswork as workers, supervisors, building inspectors, or projectdesigners in buildings owned or operated by the Marine Corps.15-6
