The Marine Corps has conducted safety and occupationalhealth programs for many years. Historically, occupationalsafety (industrial type safety) has been an element of theoverall Marine Corps Safety Program managed by Marine Corpscommand functions. Other elements of the Marine Corps SafetyProgram include aviation, ground (tactical), traffic (motorvehicle), explosives, fire protection and emergency services,system safety, industrial hygiene, recreational, off-duty, andradiation safety (ionizing, laser, and radio-frequency). TheNavy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) provides support onthe occupational health program elements.2.
