The records of <strong>safety</strong>council meetings will be disposed of in compliance withSECNAVINST 5212.5D, paragraph 6200.2b.4003. SHOP SAFETY COMMITTEE1. Each Marine Corps organization or unit having a populationof over 500 military <strong>and</strong> civilian personnel shall establishappropriate shop <strong>safety</strong> committees.2. Purpose. To increase interest in <strong>safety</strong> at the worker level<strong>and</strong> decrease the potential for mishaps.3. Membership. Employees of each work center (e.g., office,shop crew, section, department) consisting of five or morepersons will constitute a shop <strong>safety</strong> committee. Each suchcommittee shall include all members of that particular entity<strong>and</strong> shall be chaired by a supervisor or a journeyman levelmember.4. Meetings. One or more committee meetings will be held eachmonth at times <strong>and</strong> locations scheduled with the supervisor.Meetings should be of short duration <strong>and</strong> have minimal effect onwork schedules.5. Meeting Minutes. No formalized minutes of shop <strong>safety</strong>committee meetings are required; however, a roster of attendees<strong>and</strong> topics discussed will be provided to the concernedsupervisor for recording in department records. Supervisorswill then forward any pertinent <strong>safety</strong> information to their<strong>safety</strong> representative, supervisors' <strong>safety</strong> committee or <strong>safety</strong>council as appropriate.4-6
