A competent person may bedesignated as a safety monitor, who acts as a warning system ifa worker appears to be unaware of a fall hazard. The monitormust be on the same working surface, with no visualobstructions, and close enough to communicate orally with theworker. The monitor may not have any other duties. This systemcan only be used on a low-slope roof (pitch equal to or lessthan 4 in 12 inches).g. Positioning and Restraint Systems. The positioningsystem will not allow the person to fall more than 2 feet andthe anchorage strength shall be a minimum of 3,000 pounds.h. Rescue Operations. The ISM and supervisors shall ensurepersonnel exposed to fall hazards can be promptly rescued or doit themselves, should a fall occur. A rescue and evacuationplan shall be prepared and include emergency procedures, methodsof rescue, equipment used and training requirements.18004. TRAINING1. Fall protection training shall be provided to all personnelwho may be exposed to fall hazards. Training shall enable eachperson to recognize hazards of falling, as well as understandprocedures used to minimize these hazards.a. Training shall be conducted by a competent persondesignated by the ISM and shall include:(1) Nature of fall hazards in work area(s).(2) Correct procedures for erecting, inspecting, anddisassembling fall protection systems to be used.18-8
