18003 MARCOR OSH PROGRAM MANUALe. Warning Line System. Rope, wire, or chain 34-39 incheshigh, placed inwards at least 6 feet from the edge, flaggedevery 6 feet with high visibility materials, supported bystanchions capable of withst<strong>and</strong>ing a horizontal force of 16pounds without tipping. This system can only be used on alow-slope roof (pitch equal to or less than 4 inches in 12inches) <strong>and</strong> flat roof.f. Safety Monitoring System. A competent person may bedesignated as a <strong>safety</strong> monitor, who acts as a warning system ifa worker appears to be unaware of a fall hazard. The monitormust be on the same working surface, with no visualobstructions, <strong>and</strong> close enough to communicate orally with theworker. The monitor may not have any other duties. This systemcan only be used on a low-slope roof (pitch equal to or lessthan 4 in 12 inches).g. Positioning <strong>and</strong> Restraint Systems. The positioningsystem will not allow the person to fall more than 2 feet <strong>and</strong>the anchorage strength shall be a minimum of 3,000 pounds.h. Rescue Operations. The ISM <strong>and</strong> supervisors shall ensurepersonnel exposed to fall hazards can be promptly rescued or doit themselves, should a fall occur. A rescue <strong>and</strong> evacuationplan shall be prepared <strong>and</strong> include emergency procedures, methodsof rescue, equipment used <strong>and</strong> training requirements.18004. TRAINING1. Fall protection training shall be provided to all personnelwho may be exposed to fall hazards. Training shall enable eachperson to recognize hazards of falling, as well as underst<strong>and</strong>procedures used to minimize these hazards.a. Training shall be conducted by a competent persondesignated by the ISM <strong>and</strong> shall include:(1) Nature of fall hazards in work area(s).(2) Correct procedures for erecting, inspecting, <strong>and</strong>disassembling fall protection systems to be used.18-8
