MARCOR OSH PROGRAM MANUALAPPENDIX BGLOSSARY1. Abate. To eliminate or control permanently an unsafe orunhealthful working condition into compliance with Marine CorpsOSH Program st<strong>and</strong>ards.2. Administrative Control. A procedure that controls the workschedule to limit the daily exposure to toxic chemicals orharmful physical agents.3. Bloodborne Pathogens. Pathogenic microorganisms containedin human blood that can cause disease in humans. These include,but are not limited to, the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) <strong>and</strong> HumanImmunodeficiency Virus (HIV).4. Confined Space. Space not designed for routine orcontinuous occupancy, is large enough <strong>and</strong> configured to allowworker entry, <strong>and</strong> is poorly ventilated or has limited orrestricted means for entry or exit.5. Contractor Employee. An employee of a contractor performingwork under a Marine Corps contract.6. Contractor Workplace. Any place on a Marine Corpsinstallation, within the U.S., its territories, or possessions,where work is currently performed, has recently been performed,or is scheduled to be performed by contractor employees,including a reasonable access route to <strong>and</strong> from the workplace.Contractor workplace does not include any structure, machine,apparatus, device, equipment, or material therein, which acontractor employee is not required or reasonably expected tohave contact with nor include any working condition for whichOSHA jurisdiction has been preempted under section 4(b)(1) ofthe OSHA Act.7. Energized. Connected to an energy source or containingresidual or stored energy.8. Energy Isolating Device. A mechanical device thatphysically prevents the transmission or release of energy,B-1
