Plumbed eyewashes are preferred <strong>and</strong> shall be installedwhere feasible. Where plumbed units are used, they shall be eye<strong>and</strong> face wash units since chemical splashes to the eyes oftenalso involve the face. Portable eyewashes shall have sufficientvolume to meet the flow requirements of ANSI Z358.1. Personaleyewash equipment (e.g., 1-quart squeeze bottles) shall not besubstituted for emergency eyewash, but may be used to supplementplumbed or portable eyewashes.11. Sterilization. Arrangements shall be made for the issue,care, sterilization, <strong>and</strong> reissue of the "common use" eyeprotectors <strong>and</strong> coverall goggles.12. Disposition of Eye Protection. Corrective eye protectionprepared from the prescription of one person is not medicallyappropriate for reissue to another person. For personnel whoare retiring, resigning, or otherwise separating from service,their corrective eye protection has served its useful life cycle<strong>and</strong> need not be collected.13008. RESPIRATORY PROTECTION1. Marine Corps personnel working in areas where they may beexposed to harmful levels of airborne dust, fogs, fumes, mists,gases, smokes, sprays, or vapors shall be provided appropriaterespiratory protection, per guidelines of industrial hygienist,at government expense. A Respiratory Protection Program shallbe implemented as required to safeguard the health of MarineCorps personnel from respiratory hazards by use of respirators<strong>and</strong> provide written guidelines per 29 CFR 1910.134, RespiratoryProtection.2. Comm<strong>and</strong>ers shall designate a Respiratory Protection ProgramManager (RPPM) for Marine Corps installations <strong>and</strong> units, inwriting, based on recommendations from the ISM. Supporting<strong>occupational</strong> health professionals will provide consultation tothe RPPM on all aspects of the Respiratory Protection Program.13-11
