Este artigo revela um pouco da história da Universidade do Estado da Bahia (Uneb)
e de sua primeira Faculdade de Educação (Faeeba). Fala dos compromissos da Uneb/
Faeeba como instituição universitária pública que tem compromisso com a sociedade
baiana e brasileira na oferta de oferta de ensino, pesquisa e de extensão primando
pelo desenvolvimento sócio-educacional e cultural integrado da população. Destaca o
marco a histórico e o tempo de existência da antiga Faeeba e o papel que a universidade
e o Departamento de Educação têm no processo de mudança e de transformação
social, cultural e educacional que vêm ocorrendo nessas últimas décadas no interior
e na capital da Bahia. Analisa ainda a questão da universidade que temos hoje, os
desafios colocados na vida acadêmica dos Departamentos e da administração central
da Uneb, destacando também a questão da autonomia universitária e o fortalecimento
da universidade enquanto uma instituição de ensino superior heterogênea e plural,
que está localizada nas diferentes regiões do Estado da Bahia.

ABSTRACT
25 YEARS OF FAEEBA AND 26 YEARS OF UNEB: THE UNIVERSITY WE
HAVE AND THE CHALLENGES WE NEED TO OVERCOME
This article views some of the history of the State University of Bahia (Uneb) and its
first Faculty of Education (Faeeba). We address the commitments of Uneb / Faeeba as a
public university dedicated to the society of Bahia and Brazil, providing teaching, research
and extension, and striving for integrated social, educational and cultural development
for the population. We emphasize the historic mark and the period of existence of the
old Faeeba, as well as the role of the university and the Department of Education in the
process of change and social, cultural and educational transformation, that has taken place
in recent decades in the countryside and in the capital of Bahia. We also analyze the type
of university we have today, the challenges to the academic life of the Departments and
central administration of Uneb, highlighting the issue of university autonomy and the
strengthening of the university as an institution of higher learning, heterogeneous and
plural, located in different regions of the state of Bahia.
