ABSTRACT
Reading in undergraduate courses is provided. Research focuses on
the analysis of Teaching Practice in Portuguese (Prática de Ensino de Língua
Portuguesa) in the Portuguese Language Course at the State University of
Maringá, through observation of theory and practice in reading in monitored
training reports. The importance of this work is centered on the investigation
of these texts from undergraduates of the above discipline. By means of
analyses and reflections, we shall contribute towards the coherence between
reading theory and practice in the pedagogical exercise of undergraduates as
future teachers of Portuguese. Research is based on a quantity and quality
model, outlining students’ profile and course, highlighting the reading
practice, based on Psycholinguistics and Applied Linguistics. Although there
was a great amount of theoretical texts offered by the program and by the
professors, their use can’t be assessed by students’ reports. This shows that
there have been a transition period for reading and language conceptions and
an interactive conception in the theory, which is not proved in the practice.
Actually traditional practices have been detected. There are even fewer
explicit manifestations of undergraduates in relation to the reading strategies
used. Results show incoherence between theory studied in Teaching Practice
in Portuguese (Prática de Ensino de Língua Portuguesa) and the reading
approaches analyzed during the training and given in the reports. Changes are
necessary so that coherence between theory and practice in the subject and in
the analyzed reports could be evidenced.
