the key decisions and the actions of city leadership in the solving specific
problems faced in the period studied.
Among the official documents of importance to deepen our studies is the
1897 Census. Although the chronological framework goes beyond the topic, it
is the most comprehensive source more complex and city population composition
by sex, age, social class, educational level and occupation, so that the
data contained in our population structure facilitated the description of the
town .
Many of the sources studied have already been published. Thus, provisions,
stipulations and orders issued by the Assemblies of zemstvo of Chisinau in
the period of 1900-1918, were published in several volumes of documents.
According to them, I could track changes in public transport, building new
roads, bridges, paving others.
Also, much of local decisions and judgments were published in that period
the official journal of the City Duma, Ведомости Кишиневской Городской Думы.
In its pages, I found information about the measures taken by health authorities
to improve life in the city, since this is exactly the fight against tuberculosis,
scarlet fever, conditions for maintenance of hairdressing, keeping clean
the stalls in the market, and in places like bakeries, shops bread, sausage, etc.
Also the information important for the research include the personal
funds. I used background paper pages R-2987, A. Şciusev (1878-1956), which
includes valuable information on plans for reconstruction and modernization
of the city during studied, and a series of drawings (files 1-5), data about
the activity of architect, the author selected different materials to achieve
its drawings. At the private fund R-2983, Gh. Bezviconni (1861-1967, I made
reference to describe the author’s memories of Chisinau in the early twentieth
century, here we used the testimony of P. Sinadino about Chisinau years
1904-1906, about the famous pogroms Hebrew (the largest taking place in
April 1903) about the appearance of the city and about the pace of life in the
city. Especially helpful to us was the work of P. Sinadino Creditul în Basarabia
which gave us the opportunity to understand the deeper aspects of commercial
activity in town, and vintage photographs allowed us to describe the
clothing of the period studied.
We were useful the private fund F-2121, V. Gutor (1891-1957), to assess
how the organization of leisure and the entertainment in the capital, it contains
data about the activity of the great musician in Chisinau.
