local food intended to create a menu as varied as possible, to attract more
customers and increase their revenues.
The city food supply was made from nearby rural areas, through fairs,
grocery stores or food stores available in the town. A part of the supply
was centralized by the municipal government, a part-through people who
sell food on the town square. A peculiarity of food is the changing of the
Kishinev’s food menu during fasting, and during certain ceremonials, such as
weddings, baptisms, funerals.
The existence of a large food variety is confirmed by the large number of
specialized places: Commercial House „N. Rozenberg” (confectionery and bakery products);
Trading House „B. Puterman” (tea, coffee), Commercial House „B. Bairih” (plums,
nuts, flour), Commercial House „S.V. Zadzerskii” (wines and gastronomic products), etc.
The Local authorities were forced to take certain decisions to ensure a
healthy system for the residents, especially during the war. Also, most food
used in current consumption of the population were subjected to laboratory
analysis, made at the Municipal Hospital.
books, visits to the theaters and cinemas, museums and libraries to walks in
the park, dancing or entertainment in music halls, serving a coffee in a local
or a real good party with friends at the restaurant. One of the most common
methods of relaxation is reading. From literature to art simply reading the
daily newspapers, reading remains a pleasant occupation for the moments
after a day of exhausting work. According to statistics, urban public library in
Chisinau, have a considerable number of readers, many of whom were active
readers, with or without subscription, who requested books with a very varied
content. On the other hand, there is in the regular press a very large range
of problems, which could not leave „thirsty” of information the inhabitants.
Among the preferences of the Kishinev-ns is refined their taste for music
and dance classes open at the singing sisters Hrjanovski C.M. and in 1906 the
