Intended audience: The guideline is relevant to all PTSD sufferers, to their carers, and to all
health professionals involved in the help, treatment and care of all PTSD sufferers.
Methodology and development: NICE commissioned the development of this guidance from
the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health. The centre established a Guideline
Deve lop ment Group, which reviewed the evidence and developed the recommendations. The
members of the Guideline Development Group are listed in Appendix B.
Implications for practice: Local health communities should review their existing practice in
the treatment and management of PTSD against this guideline. The review should consider
the resources required to implement the recommendations set out in Section 1, the people and
processes involved and the timeline over which full implementation is envisaged. It is in the
interests of PTSD sufferers that the implementation should be as rapid as possible. Relevant
local guidelines, care pathways and protocols should be reviewed in the light of this guidance
and revised accordingly.
