Clara Cook<br />
Clara MAHLER COOK, 86, died at 2 a.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Neil<br />
LICHTENBERGER, in South Bend. She had been ill since March 3.<br />
Born in <strong>Fulton</strong> county June 16, 1873, she had resided in the Delong and Culver<br />
communities until moving to South Bend in 1940. She was married first Feb. 25, 1890, to Daniel<br />
MAHLER, who died Dec. 13, 1913. She then was married in June, 1925 to Isaac COOK of<br />
Culver, who died in September, 1942.<br />
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. LICHTENBERGER and Miss Charlotte MAHLER,<br />
South Bend; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lester MAHLER, Napoleon, O., one granddaughter and<br />
two great-granddaughters. One son, Lester [MAHLER], preceded her in death.<br />
Last rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Easterday funeral home at Culver with the<br />
Rev. Paul HARRIS officiating. Burial will be in the Leiters Ford I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may<br />
call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.<br />
Mars A. Tucker<br />
Mars A. TUCKER, 65, farmer and stock buyer of Mentone, died suddenly Sunday at 1:30<br />
p.m. <strong>The</strong> Johns funeral home of Mentone is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.<br />
Robert D. Pownall<br />
Robert D. POWNALL, 38, a native of <strong>Fulton</strong> county, died Saturday morning at the Great<br />
Lakes Naval hospital near Chicago after a six-month illness. He was a retired machinist’s mate<br />
first-class in the U.S. Navy and had been residing at Prescott, Ark.<br />
Born May 19, 1921, in <strong>Fulton</strong> county, he was the son of Frank and Hazel BEATTIE<br />
POWNALL. He was married in 1943 at Prescott, Ark., to Mary Lou ERWIN, who survives. He<br />
was a member of the F.V.W.<br />
Also surviving are one daughter, Neva Jean [POWNALL], and two sons, Jerry and Terry<br />
[POWNALL], both at home; his parents, R.R. 2, Kewanna; three sister, Mrs. John (Mary Jean)<br />
MARSH, Alexandria, Va., Marjorie Joan POWNALL, Washington,D.C., and Helen<br />
[POWNALL], Kewanna; and one brother, Howard [POWNALL], Long Beach, Cal.<br />
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Ditmire funeral home at <strong>Fulton</strong> with the<br />
Rev. W. E. KEITH officiating. Burial will be in the <strong>Fulton</strong> cemetry, where military rites will be<br />
performed. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.<br />
Nellie Kercher<br />
Mrs. Nellie KERCHER, 76, died Sunday at 9 p.m. in her home, R.R. 1, Mentone, after a<br />
long illness.<br />
Born in Miami county July 1, 1883, she was the daughter of William and Edith<br />
SHOEMAKER KRIEG. She was married June 8, 1901, to William C. KERCHER who survives.<br />
She was a member of the Mentone Baptist chuch.<br />
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Alva) HUDSON, Akron; Mrs. Nina<br />
WORKING, Peru, and Mrs. Kenneth (Wreatha) MOLLENHOUR, Mentone; one son, Russell<br />
[KERCHER], Waverly, Ky.; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren, and twp<br />
sisters, Mrs. Rosa YOUNG, Anderson, and Mrs. Daisy SMITH, Chili.<br />
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Mentone Baptist church with the<br />
Rev. Irwin OLSON officiating. Burial will be at Mentone. Friends may call at the Johns funeral<br />
home in Mentone after 10 a.m.
