William Turner<br />
Friends here have been advised of the death in Richmond last week of William<br />
TURNER, 60, former owner of the Rochesrter <strong>News</strong> Agency. Mr. Turner died suddenly at his<br />
Richmond home Tuesday and was buried there Friday.<br />
He and his wife came to Rochester in 1954 after purchasing the news agency and<br />
operated it two years before selling it to Gates THOMPSON, present owner, in 1956.<br />
Carrie E. Smith<br />
Mrs. Carrie E. SMITH, 80, South Bend, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday in Memorial hospital<br />
in that city. She formerly resided in Rochester.<br />
Born Jan. 22, 1879, at Winamac, she was the daughter of Oliver and Martha LAMBORN,<br />
longtime Rochester residents.<br />
Surviving are two sons, Ermal and Curtis [SMITH], both of South Bend, and three<br />
grandchildren.<br />
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. CST in the Forest Hay funeral home in<br />
South Bend with the Rev. Ralph STEELE officiating. Burial will be in the Kewanna I.O.O.F.<br />
cemetery at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday.<br />

Herbert D. Hooks<br />
Herbert D. HOOKS, 60, a former Rochester resident, died Thursday in the Baptist<br />
Memorial hospital near St. Louis, Mo., where he had been a patient since Saturday.<br />
He had moved to St. Louis in 1946, having owned the Streamliner restaurant on Ninth<br />
street in Rochester.<br />
Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Winsell (Barbara) ZARTMAN, Rochester,<br />
and a son, Herbert [HOOKS], Jr., St. Louis.<br />
Services will be in Elsberry, Mo. at 2 p.m. Sunday. <strong>The</strong> body will be taken to Michigan<br />
City. where graveside rites will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Greenwood cemetery.<br />
