R. Lee Overstreet<br />

R. Lee OVERSTREET, 86, who was associated with Overstreet’s Resort at Lake<br />

Manitou for 15 years, died at 1:40 a.m. today in the Rochester nursing home, where he had lived<br />

for the last two years. He had been seriously ill for about five months.<br />

Mr. Overstreet was the father of Kenneth OVERSTREET, who operated the resort<br />

busines on the southwest side of Lake Manitou until selling it a few years ago.<br />

A 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge at Pittsboro, Ind., Mr. Overstreet was a past<br />

master of the lodge. He also was a member of the Pittsboro Christian church and of the<br />

Brightwood chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at Indianapolis. He had been a farmer until he<br />

retired from that occupation in 1940.<br />

Mr. Overstreet was born in Lizton, Ind., on Jan. 22, 1873, the son of Aaron and Catherine<br />

ELDER OVERSTREET. On Jan. 23, 1879, he was married in Pittsboro to Julia KEENY, who<br />

died in 1938.<br />

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Max (Clarice) DAVIS, Speedway City, Ind., two sons,<br />

Kenneth [OVERSTREET], of Rochester and Noblesville, and Charles [OVERSTREET],<br />

Sheridan; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, three sisters and five brothers<br />

preceded him in death.<br />

Services in Rochester will be at the Foster & Good funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday with<br />

the Rev. C. A. UNDERWOOD officiating. <strong>The</strong> body then will be removed to the Gregory funeral<br />

home at Pittsboro. Services in Pittsboro will be in the Christian church at 2 p.m. Friday with the<br />

Rev. Raymond O’HAVER officiating. Masonic rites also will be conducted. Burial will be in the<br />

K. of P. cemetery at Lizton.<br />

Friends may call at the Foster & Good funeral home after 7 p.m. today and at the Gregory<br />

funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday.<br />

Charles T. Beets<br />

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home here<br />

for Charles T. BEETS, 79, Lake, who died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn hospital of a heart<br />

ailment.<br />

Burial will be in Galveston. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.<br />

Mr. Beets, ill for the past week, had been a hospital patient since April 20. He had<br />

resided seven years in the “Beets-All” cottage on the west side of Lake Manitou. A native of<br />

Peoria, Ill., he was born July 28, 1879, the son of Thomas and Ellen BEETS. He was married in<br />

1900 to Nora DAVIS, who died in 1932.<br />

Surviving are one son, John [BEETS], Kokomo; four daughters, Mrs. John FETTERS,<br />

Roann; Mrs. Virgil SCOTT, Peru; Mrs. Al HARBER, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Joe GILMORE, New<br />

York City, and one brother, Chester [BEETS], Frankfort.<br />

Mildred Thompson<br />

Mrs. Mildred Pauline THOMPSON, 54, 329 Jefferson street, died Wednesday at 2:45<br />

p.m. in Woodlawn hospital, where she had been a patient since April 23. She had been seriously<br />

ill since her admittance to the hospital.<br />

A lifelong resident of this community, she was born Oct. 2, 1904, in Richland township,<br />

the daughter of Alva Paul and Harriet Lovina WALTERS KALE. She was married here June 26,<br />

1926, to Dallas THOMPSON, who died Nov. 14, 1958.
