<strong>The</strong> Rev. Fred CROWN of the Argos Baptist church will conduct funeral services at 2<br />

p.m. Monday at the Grossman funeral home, Argos, where friends may call after 2 p.m. today.<br />

Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetry at Argos.<br />

Edward D. Davis<br />

Edward Donald “Don” DAVIS, 49, former Rochester resident and basketball star here,<br />

died suddenly of coronary embolism at noon Friday in St. Margaret hospital, Hammond.<br />

Mr. Davis was born Aug. 5, 1909, in Rochester, the son of Anson and Selma E. DOWNS<br />

DAVIS. He graduated from Rochester high school in 1928, where he starred on the basketball<br />

team his senior year.<br />

He was married Jan. 1, 1929, in Winamac, to Bessie B. BAUGH, who survives. He<br />

owned and operated Lawrence Lake lodge, Westfield, Wis., during the summer and was a taxi<br />

driver in Hammond during the winter.<br />

Mr. Davis, a veteran of World War II, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at<br />

Winamac and had served as commander of the VFW post there. He also was a past commander of<br />

the second district VFW.<br />

Surviving besides the widow are a brother, Everette [DAVIS]; two sisters, Mrs. O. C.<br />

(Mary) HARTLE, Leiters Ford, and Mrs. Major (Lela) ZIMMERMAN, Rochester, and several<br />

nieces and nephews.<br />

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Mayo SMITH of<br />

Winamac, assisted by the Winamac VFW at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home here. Friends<br />

may call at the funeral home aftr 10 a.m. Sunday.<br />

Mary Wideman<br />

Mrs. Mary WIDEMAN, 91, lifelong resident of Akron and vicinity, died at 10:30 p.m.<br />

Saturday at her home R.R. 1, Akron, after a seven-months’ illness.<br />

She was born July 9, 1867, in Henry township, the daughter of John and Rebecca GANT<br />

BARNES. Married three times, she was fisrt wed to Oliver GIBSON on July 1, 1881, in Akron.<br />

John DICKERHOFF was her second husband, and in 1896, she was married to Alex<br />

WIDEMAN, who preceded her in death in 1934.<br />

Surviving are seven sons, Earl GIBSON, Rochester; Fred DICKERHOFF, Hudson Lake;<br />

Gil WIDEMAN, Akron; Claude WIDEMAN, Ft. Wayne; Clayton WIDEMAN, Amboy, and<br />

Homer and Ed WIDEMAN, both of Akron; three daughters, Mrs. Grace WILLIAMS, Rochester;<br />

Mrs. Pete (Lula) RILEY, Akron, and Mrs. Alvert (Rhoda) LAUGHMAN, Roann; twenty-four<br />

grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Two children<br />

preceded her in death. Mrs. Wideman was the last of nine children.<br />

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sheetz funeral home,<br />

Akron, by the Rev. D. L. SLAYBAUGH, and burial will be in Nichols cemetery. Friends may<br />

call at the funeral home.
