Mr. Ninios, an expert candy maker, saw the candy kitchen become a popular gathering<br />

place of the community’s younger persons, a position which it largely maintained until fire<br />

destroyed the building in 1949.<br />

A year later, the cousins reopened the Berghoff cafe in a new building on South Main<br />

street, Peter continuing to operate his candy and ice cream business in the north half of the<br />

structure.<br />

Surviving are two brothers, Gus [NINIOS] South Bend, and John [NINIOS], still in<br />

Greece; one sister, also in Greece, and two cousins, Louis and Christ [NINIOS], Rochester.<br />

<strong>The</strong> body was taken to the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home. Arrangements are<br />

incomplete.<br />

James R. Bevelheimer<br />

James R. BEVELHEIMER, 72, a farmer, died of paralysis at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at his<br />

home seven miles northeast of Rocheser. He had been ill about four weeks.<br />

Mr. Bevelheimer had spent almost his entire life in Rochester and vicinity. He was born<br />

in Lebanon, Ind., on March 3, 1886, the son of Joe and Kathryn BEVELHEIMER.<br />

His first marriage was to Myrtle MORTS, who died in 1949. His second marriage was in<br />

1953 to Nancy WARREN, who survives. Mr. Bevelheimer was a member of the Logansport<br />

Eagles and Moose lodges and the Fort Wayne I.O.O.F. lodge.<br />

Surviving are the widow at home; three sisters, Mrs. Laura MASON, Illinois; Mrs. Ocie<br />

KOFFEL, Logansport; and Ruth LAIRD, California; and a brother, Ray [BEVELHEIMER],<br />

Tipton.<br />

Sevices will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with Dr.<br />

Claude YOUNG officiating. Burial will be in the <strong>Fulton</strong> cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral<br />

home after noon Saturday.<br />

Frank L. Goodrich<br />

Frank L. GOODRICH, 78, Columbia City, father of A. L. GOODRICH of West 11th<br />

street, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday in Columbia City. He had been in failing health since last fall.<br />

A retired farmer, Mr. Goodrich was born in Whitley county April 17, 1880. He was<br />

married in June, 1909, in Columbia City, to Nettie SHOEMAKER, who died on Dec. 31, 1949.<br />

Mr. Goodrich was one of the original members of the Whitley <strong>County</strong> R.E.M.C.’s board<br />

of directors and a member of the Trinity Methodist church, the Methodist Men’s club and the<br />

I.O.O.F.<br />

Surviving, besides his son, are a daughter, Mrs. Robert PONTZIUS, Columbia City; four<br />

grandchildren; two brothers, Chance [GOODRICH], Sierreville, Cal., and Floyd [GOODRICH],<br />

Oroville, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Alice BEARD, Larwill, Mrs. Otttie FOSTER, Columbia City,<br />

and Mrs. Frances SCHUMAN, Whitley county.<br />

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the J. A. DeMoney and Son funeral home in<br />

Columbia City. <strong>The</strong> Rev. Verlin O. VERNON, of the Trinity Methodist church, will officiate and<br />

burial will be in the South Park cemetery at Columbia City. Friends may call after 7:30 p.m. today<br />

at the funeral home.
