Mary E. Rose<br />
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth ROSE, 79, sister of Mrs. Lillian LAVENGOOD, R.R. 2, Rochester,<br />
died Tuesday at her home in Indianapolis.<br />
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn SINES, Indianapolis; two grandchildren, and<br />
several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Otto [ROSE], died last year.<br />
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Flanner and Buchanan funeral home, Fall<br />
Creek boulevard, Indianapolis.<br />

Phyllis Hartzler<br />
Mrs. Richard (Phyllis) HARTZLER, 23, R.R. 1, Akron, died at 5 a.m. today in<br />
Woodlawn hospital after an illness of one year.<br />
A native of Rochester, she was born Sept. 9, 1936, the daughter of Howard and Mary<br />
NEWELL TOBEY. She was married on Jan. 28, 1955, in Rochester to Richard “Jack”<br />
HARTZLER and they had lived near Akron for five years.<br />
Mrs. Hartzler was a member of the Akron Chuch of God and the Summit club.<br />
Surviving are the husband; the parents, of Rochester; a sister, Mrs. Ned (Jane)<br />
HALTERMAN, Rochester; two brothers, Robert [TOBEY], Rochester, and Tom [TOBEY], who<br />
lives with the parents; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lucy TOBEY, and the maternal<br />
grandmother, Mrs. Maggie NEWELL, both of Rochester.<br />
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Akron Church of God, with the Rev. Harold<br />
CONRAD officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery.<br />
Friends may call after 7 p.m. home [sic] in Akron until noon Saturday. <strong>The</strong> body will lie<br />
in state at the church for one hour before services.<br />
Friday, October 2, <strong>1959</strong><br />
John W. Townsend<br />
John W. TOWNSEND, 46, who resided four miles southeast of <strong>Fulton</strong>, died Thursday at<br />
4:30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s hospital at Logansport after a six-month illness.<br />
A resident of the <strong>Fulton</strong> community for 20 years, he had moved there from Logansport.<br />
He was born in Howard county, Feb. 14, 1913, the son of George and Minnie LOWE<br />
TOWNSEND. He was a veteran of World War I.<br />
Surviving are one brother, George [TOWNSEND], R.R. 1, Twelve Mile; three sisters,<br />
Mrs. Wilma FINK, Miami, Fla.; Mrs. Jess FINCHER, Rockfield, and Ms. Bette GUNDRUM,<br />
R.R. 1, Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and one brother, Robert<br />
TOWNSEND, preceded him in death.<br />
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. DST Monday in the Ditmire funeral home at <strong>Fulton</strong><br />
with the Rev. William KEITH officiating. Burial will be in the North Union cemetery, Howard<br />
county. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Saturday.
