Essie Slayter<br />

Final rites for Mrs. Essie SLAYTER, 81, formerly of Argos, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in<br />

the Grossman funeral home at Argos with the Rev. G. Elwood ANDERSON of the Argos<br />

Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery at Argos.<br />

Friends may call at the funeral home.<br />

Mrs. Slayter died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth after being in failing health for the<br />

last four years. She had lived with friends, Judge and Mrs. Roy SHENEMAN near Walkerton.<br />

Born Sept. 26, 1878, at Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of Simon and Alice<br />

HOOVER RAILSBACK. In 1902, she was married to Lloyd SLATER, who died Jan. 17, 1946.<br />

Mrs. Slayter was a member of the Argos Monday club and Argos Order of Eastern Star<br />

265.<br />

<strong>The</strong> only relatives surviving are several cousins. Two close friends, Mrs. Sheneman and<br />

Mrs. Joyce ZOOK of North Liberty, both of whom lived for many years with Mr. and Mrs.<br />

SLAYTER, also survive.<br />

Florine Acker<br />

Funeral services were conducted today for Mrs. Florine BISHER ACKER, 86,<br />

Minneapolis, Min., sister of Mrs. Milo (Blanche) KING of Rochester.<br />

Mrs. Acker died in Minneapolis Saturday after an illness of one year. She was born in<br />

Bourbon and had lived in Plymouth. She had lived in Minneapolis for the last 15 years.<br />

Surviving besides Mrs. King are three daughters and two sons. Another sister, Mrs.<br />

Arthur (Helen) METZLER of Rochester preceded her in death.<br />

Tuesday, December 29, <strong>1959</strong><br />

Richard Allen McGriff<br />

Infant Richard Allen McGRIFF, son of James Jerome “Jerry” and Phyllis Joan REECE<br />

McGRIFF, Mishawaka, was dead at birth at 4:42 p.m. Monday in Memorial hospital at South<br />

Bend.<br />

Surviving besides the parents are the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul<br />

McGRIFF, the paternal gread-grandfather, Parker McGRIFF; the foster maternal grandparents,<br />

Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord ZUMBAUGH, and the foster maternal great-grandfather, Ray<br />

ZUMBAUGH, all of R.R. 2, Argos.<br />

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Argos Maple Grove cemetery.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rev. Albert RIDER of the Bethel Methodist church will officiate.<br />

Friends may call at the Grossman funeral home in Argos.<br />

Grace Rietveld<br />

Services were conducted Monday for Mrs. Grace RIETVELD, 88, Harvey, Ill.,<br />

grandmother of Norman RIETVELD, 402 West Third street. Mrs. Rietveld died suddenly<br />

Thursday following a heart attack.<br />

Among other survivors are nine children, several grandchildren and twenty-one greatgandchildren.
