Essie Slayter
Final rites for Mrs. Essie SLAYTER, 81, formerly of Argos, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in
the Grossman funeral home at Argos with the Rev. G. Elwood ANDERSON of the Argos
Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery at Argos.
Friends may call at the funeral home.
Mrs. Slayter died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth after being in failing health for the
last four years. She had lived with friends, Judge and Mrs. Roy SHENEMAN near Walkerton.
Born Sept. 26, 1878, at Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of Simon and Alice
HOOVER RAILSBACK. In 1902, she was married to Lloyd SLATER, who died Jan. 17, 1946.
Mrs. Slayter was a member of the Argos Monday club and Argos Order of Eastern Star
265.
The only relatives surviving are several cousins. Two close friends, Mrs. Sheneman and
Mrs. Joyce ZOOK of North Liberty, both of whom lived for many years with Mr. and Mrs.
SLAYTER, also survive.
Florine Acker
Funeral services were conducted today for Mrs. Florine BISHER ACKER, 86,
Minneapolis, Min., sister of Mrs. Milo (Blanche) KING of Rochester.
Mrs. Acker died in Minneapolis Saturday after an illness of one year. She was born in
Bourbon and had lived in Plymouth. She had lived in Minneapolis for the last 15 years.
Surviving besides Mrs. King are three daughters and two sons. Another sister, Mrs.
Arthur (Helen) METZLER of Rochester preceded her in death.

Richard Allen McGriff
Infant Richard Allen McGRIFF, son of James Jerome “Jerry” and Phyllis Joan REECE
McGRIFF, Mishawaka, was dead at birth at 4:42 p.m. Monday in Memorial hospital at South
Bend.
Surviving besides the parents are the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul
McGRIFF, the paternal gread-grandfather, Parker McGRIFF; the foster maternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord ZUMBAUGH, and the foster maternal great-grandfather, Ray
ZUMBAUGH, all of R.R. 2, Argos.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Argos Maple Grove cemetery.
The Rev. Albert RIDER of the Bethel Methodist church will officiate.
Friends may call at the Grossman funeral home in Argos.
Grace Rietveld
Services were conducted Monday for Mrs. Grace RIETVELD, 88, Harvey, Ill.,
grandmother of Norman RIETVELD, 402 West Third street. Mrs. Rietveld died suddenly
Thursday following a heart attack.
Among other survivors are nine children, several grandchildren and twenty-one greatgandchildren.
