Martha Smith<br />

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home for<br />

Mrs. Martha Ann SMITH, 80, who died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday in the Miller nursing home, 719<br />

Madison street. A patient there 14 months, she had been ill two years. Her residence was at 602<br />

1/2 Madison street.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rev. C. A. UNDERWOOD of the First Christian church will officiate at the funeral<br />

and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.<br />

A native of Farmers City, Ill., Mrs. Smith was born March 19, 1879, the daughter of<br />

David A. and Amanda OFTERDINGER WALLER. She came here 15 years ago from<br />

Huntington. Married in Benton county June 10, 1903, her husband, Warren C. SMITH, died in<br />

1944.<br />

Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Christian church.<br />

Surviving are a brother, Emerson [WALLER], Fowler; one granddaughter, Sue Ann<br />

PHEBUS, Rochester; and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Ernest D. BONINE,<br />

Rochester. One daughter, Mrs. Julia Ann PHEBUS, died in 1952.<br />

Sollie Clemans<br />

Sollie CLEMANS, 82, Macy farmer, died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday at his home one mile<br />

southwest of Macy. He had been ill one month.<br />

Mr. Clemans was born Oct. 10, 1876, in Newcastle township, <strong>Fulton</strong> county, the son of<br />

David and Maria NICHOLS CLEMANS. He had lived in Macy for about 50 years.<br />

On Dec. 3, 1898, he was married to Zella Mae DUEY, who died Oct. 17, 1957. Mr.<br />

Clemans was a member of the Macy Christian church.<br />

Surviving are a son, Merritt [CLEMANS], R.R. 6, Rochester; four grandchildren; ten<br />

great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Gladys) COFFING, Macy. A daughter, Mrs.<br />

Florence MILLER, preceded him in death.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rev. I. T. ROGERS will conduct funeral services Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Macy<br />

Christian church. Burial will be in Plainview cemetery, Macy.<br />

<strong>The</strong> body will lie in state at the church one hour before the funeral. It was taken from the<br />

Ditmire funeral home, <strong>Fulton</strong>, at noon today to the home, where friends may call.<br />

Mrs. Howard Severied<br />

Services for Mrs. Howard SEVERIED, 58, New Augusta, Ind., a former Monterey<br />

resident, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the New Augusta Lutheran church. Burial will be in New<br />

Augusta, also.<br />

Mrs. Severied, sister of Mrs. Johanna WARREN and Isaac SLONAKER, both of<br />

Rochester, died Saturday at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis.<br />

<strong>The</strong> former Noretta SLONAKER, Mrs. Severied was born May 30, 1920, the daughter of<br />

Plake and Effie WENTZEL SLONAKER.<br />

Other survivors are the husband; two daughters, Sheila and Constance [SEVERIED], and<br />

a son, Ralph [SEVERIED], all at home; the mother of Gary and two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Betty)<br />

GOODMAN, Gary, and Mrs. Howard (Ethel) GOSS, Plymouth.
