R. Elmer Cook<br />

R. Elmer COOK, 72, retired Nickel Plate railroad telegrapher, died at 10:30 p.m.<br />

Wednesday at his home six and one-half miles northeast of the city on R.R. 5. Mr. Cook had had<br />

asthma and a heart ailment for the last four years, but his death was sudden.<br />

He was born March 23, 1887, in Litchfield, Ill., the son of Isaac and Effie BALEY<br />

COOK. On Aug. 25, 1909, in Cumberland, Md., he was married to Zola LANDIS, who survives.<br />

In 1919 the Cooks came to Rochester from Farmers City, Ill. Mr. Cook was a member of<br />

the Tiosa Brethren church.<br />

Surviving besides the widow, at home, are two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Ruth)<br />

HINDERER, Royal Oak, Mich., and Mrs. Wallace (Marguerite) SPERRY, Culver; two sons,<br />

Willard [COOK], Peru, and Dale G. [COOK], Toledo; thirteen grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.<br />

<strong>The</strong> parents and one granddaughter preceded him in death.<br />

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Foster & Good funeral home, with the<br />

Rev. Wayne SWIHART, formerly pastor of the Tiosa Brethren church, in charge. Burial will be<br />

in the Reichter cemetery in Newcastle township.<br />

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.<br />

Clem O’Blenis<br />

Final rites for Clem H. O’BLENIS, 66, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Foster & Good<br />

funeral home here with the Rev. Kenneth FOULKE officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F.<br />

cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.<br />

Mr. O’Blenis died at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Veterans hospital in Marion, where he had<br />

been a patient the past 35 years. He had been seriously ill the past week.<br />

Born May 22, 1892, in Richland township, he was the son of William and Rosealva<br />

HASSENPLUG O’BLENIS. He was a member of the Grandview E.U.B. church and the Leroy<br />

Shelton American Legion Post 36 of Rochester. He was a veteran of World War I.<br />

Surviving are a brother, Ray O’BLENIS, 512 West Ninth street; a niece, Mrs. Floyd<br />

(Alvena) MOLLENCUPP, Kewanna; one nephew, William O’BLENIS, Rochester. His parents<br />

and three brothers preceded him in death.<br />

Jennie Clayburn<br />

Miss Jennie Elnora CLAYBURN, 87, died this morning at 9:15 o’clock in the Miller<br />

nursing home here, where she had been a patient since Tuesday. She resided at 1328 Monroe<br />

street and had been in ill health since November.<br />

Born April 28, 1871, at North Manchester, Miss Clayburn was the daughter of William<br />

W. and Elizabeth STAVER CLAYBURN. She came to Rochester in 1928 from a farm six miles<br />

west of Rochester.<br />

Miss Clayburn attended the First Christian church.<br />

She is survived by three brothers, Otto and Fred [CLAYBURN], at home, and Edward<br />

[CLAYBURN], Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. She was the oldest of nine children.<br />

Funeral rites will be Sunday at 2 p.m. DST at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home<br />

with the Rev. C. A. UNDERWOOD officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here.<br />

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Saturday.
