The original minutes of the briefs of Pius V. are also in the collection of the Papal Secret Archives.^ Two volumes of the original minutes have been taken away from Rome ; one is to be found in the British Museum, London, the other in a private Italian library. On p. 496 : to the Archduke Ernest : minute of the credentials brief for " Alexander Casalis, cubiculi nostri magist.," of September 12, 1566. On p. 506 : to PhiUp II. : minute of the credentials brief for Camaiani who was to treat of matters which had already for some time past been treated of by means of letters and the ordinary nuncio. September 27, 1566. (2). The " Catalogue des livres, manuscrits, etc., composant la Bibliotheque de Horace de Landau, I., Florence, 1895, has a list of the autograph letters of Pius V. This library is now in the possession of Madame Finaly at the Villa alia Pietra near Florence. At the request of His Excellency Prince Franz von Liechtenstein and the hbrarian Ulrich Schmid in 1909, the use of the codex in question was. as a great exception, made over into the hands of the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome. The codex in question bears the mark 1176-1401, and on the back in leather bears the title " Schediasmata autographa epistolarum divi Pii V."
