Goal: All students will positively contribute to a safe and nurturing school environment.
Objective / Benchmark:
Achievement Objective: Whitman students will use interpersonal/social skills to
resolve/avoid conflict. Positive Behavior Support team will offer guidance to teachers and
students in developing and promoting routines, common language and acceptable behaviors.
We will also incorporate Life Skills and 7 Community Guidelines throughout the school.
Benchmark: Quarterly monitoring will occur, and referrals will be reviewed, It is our
expectation that we will see a 10% decrease in referrals from last year, especially in regards
to disruptive behavior, disrespect, abusive language and fighting.
Interventions / Strategies:
• Teachers will model desired behaviors of mutual respect in their interactions with
colleagues, parents, and students.
• Teachers will teach procedures to students during the first several days of school and
will review and reference these expectations throughout the year.
• PBS awards assemblies will be held every other Monday to reward students with
grade level drawings consisting of those students earning behavior “WORKS” cards
throughout the two weeks.
• Ongoing PBS behavior incentives
• Class Student of the Month awards awarded at quarterly honor roll assemblies
• Counselor’s Breakfast Club
• DaySpring site based services
• Child Study Team meetings as needed
• Operation Aware program
