Lansing is a semi-urban city. The City of Lansing’s government is made up of a Mayor and 8 member City Council, two from each ward. The Mayor is elected at large. Land Use and Development Trends According to the 2010 census, the City of Lansing has a population of 11,265 people, a gain of 560 people since the 2007 census. The land area is 8.6 square miles, and the population density is 1,310 people per square mile. Primary growth is west and south of Lansing.
